Windows Server R2 2012 is the software product which was developed with the aim to do the server update more powerful and flexible operating system. The product got many inconspicuous changes to the main performance capabilities and key areas.

Except for small changes, the developers made serious improvements to two core functions: Hyper-V and BYOD. The latter allows creating and managing BYOD policies that are considered as the consumerization of IT industry.
It stands to mention, the improved server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Options leave competitors behind. The application enables users to share Microsoft’s VHDX hard drive format data files as storage for the clustered apps. The R2 has special functionality which helps the guest OS connect to the VHDX without the necessity to define the storage method.

In addition, the R2 now has a special option which can re-size a VHDX data file that is affixed to a SCSI drive, all the time while the virtual machine is running it remains online.

The brand new storage quality of service (QoS) option permits to set the minimum and maximum I/O load for every virtual hard drive. It helps to ensure that the storage space of one virtual disk doesn’t impact the other one.

In this release, the Hyper-V feature was seriously changed and now it supports the exporting of virtual machines or checking the points of the virtual machine while it is still running.

Yet still, the Hyper-V has the enhanced functionality, which enables users to detect and control the network connectivity failures like faulty network adaptors or faulty ports. The Failover Cluster finds a problem in a certain node; the app automatically starts another node to provide the service. Also, the application constantly monitors the nodes to check that they work properly. If the node isn't in order, the software restarts the unresponsive node and switches to another one.

Besides, the Hyper-V keeps a check on the storage which is widely used by the clustered virtual machines. In case the VM loses the access to the uncontrolled disk, the Cluster Shared Volume can’t provide successive, distributed namespace for the nodes to get access to the storage.

Using the Hyper-V Replica option, administrators can make a copy of a virtual machine. It is the offline copy which is located on the 2-nd Hyper-V server. In case the main server fails, the app activates the reserve server and restores the work of the service.
